  • We are going to be trying to prove a statement true or untrue. For example 2x+5=13 and the equation says x=4. Is it correct? To figure out how to figure that out keep reading. We will be solving MULTI-STEP EQUATIONS
  • A logical sequence for an argument or claim that justifies each statement made. Each statement has a corresponding reason.
  • Statement: Show the truth                Reason:Identify the property of equality that justifies each step that you show
  • Here are some rules: 1.Got parentheses? Distribute! 2. COMBINE LIKE TERMS 3.Move all variables to one side 4. Move all constants to the other side 5. Solve for X using inverse operations 6. Check your solution
  • Reflective Property of Equality: a=a 7x=7x Symmetric Property of Equality: if a=b then b=c, x=7 7=x Transitive Property of Equality: if a-b and b=c than a=c Addition Property of Equality: if a=b than a+c = b+c Subtraction Property of Equality: if a=b than a-c = b-c Multiplication Property of Equality: if a=b than a*c = b*c Division Property of Equality: if a=b than a/c + b/c Substitution Property of Equality: if a=b, b can replace a at any spot Distributive Property: a(b+c) = ab+ac
