Olympic games were first held in Olympia, around 776 B.C. The games were held to honour Zeus, a god known to the Greeks.
Not all people could compete in the olympics in ancient greek. Females, Non-greek, criminals and cities who didn’t agree to participate in the olympic truce of the game couldn’t participate in this event.
Competing in sports, was one of the ways the Greeks show honour.
The victor gets a crown made from olive leaves, which came from a sacred tree, And also walk away with fame.
