  • The Bay of Pigs Invasion was between Cuba and Cuban exiles and Cuba defeated the exiles that were supported by the United States.
  • Traitors
  • Castro ruled with communism and put many of his political enemies to death. He didn't hold the free elections. Guevara believed more in socialism and didn't agree with the more radical views of communism.

  • Castro and his committee of the Defense of the Revolution made a system to get citizens to spy on their neighbors. The idea was to find counter-revolutions. Between this, the record failing harvest in the early 1970’s, and the constitution being passed in 1976 granting popular votes, the radical phase came to an end.
  • President Eisenhower puts a trade embargo on Cuba. Operation mongoose was another attempt at restoring order. Operation mongoose consisted of a few attempts between 1961-1963 where the U.S. tried to assassinate Fidel Castro.

  • Castro must die
  • Castro demands absolute loyalty and it results in less than successful for an economic policy-maker. Also, Cuba remains a poor country once Castro took office.
  • Absolute loyalty!
  • The Cuban revolution can be looked at as a success and a failure. It succeeded in overthrowing the cruel dictator Batista and gaining its independence, but failed to abide by its constitution and turned into a communist country and still is today.
