Hello, my name is Katy. I am in year 9 at Eden Girls School in Slough. We recently completed the First Give programme, and I'm here today to tell you more about the programme and why you should sign your school up!
There are three main elements of the First Give programme: 1. An 8 lesson curriculum about social issues and charities (if you look behind me you can see it being taught!) 2. Public speaking training 3. A school competition to win £1000 in grants for charities
Here are some of the key things you need to know: -It runs in an entire year group - and can be slotted into many different curriculum areas -students stuody social issues in their community and form teams - In their teams, they pitch their charities and the classroom make a decision on which charity to partner with - Then, they plan out how they can support their charity and each student benefits from specialist public speaking tips. - Classes choose one team to represent them at their school final where they can win £1000! - Everyone else will volunteer and fundraise for their charity. -The whole programme ends with a School Final where each of the chosen teams will compete for £1000 by delivering their pitch and reporting on their volunteering and fundraising.
First Give taught us..... My favourite part was..... I really enjoyed..... Teaching First Give was...
