Storyboard Text

  • Hi! I'm Jerry! I'm eleven years old. I live in England with my mom. My dad is dead, and I'm an only child. This summer, my mom and I are returning to our favorite beaches for vacation.
  • Exposition
  • My mother wants to protect me, but she also knows that I'm growing up and have to have freedom. I feel kind of bad leaving her, but I want to explore my own things. When I'm at the rocky beach, I make sure she's safe, but I also try to impress the older boys. They aren't impressed with me. I see them pass through a rock wall, so I make it my mission to pass that wall as well. I want to be like them.
  • Rising Action
  • I searched blindly for a hole in the rock wall, but I could not find one. My mother bought goggles for me, and then I found the hole! However, it was a long tunnel, and I couldn't get through it. I began to practice holding my breath, My nose bled, but I kept going until I could hold my breath for two whole minutes. Once at the beach, my nose bled so badly and I felt so dizzy that I contemplated giving up, but I knew that I couldn't. Right then and there, I knew that I had to try, or I really would give up. I entered the tunnel and started to swim through it. After a while, my lungs started to ache and my head started to spin. I was afraid that I would die, right there in the tunnel, but I kept going. At one point I thought I was through, but it was just a crack letting in sunlight. I pushed myself on through the darkness. My head ached and I was fading out of consciousness.
  • Rising Action
  • Then, I was out!
  • Climax
  • My nose bled when I came out, bled so badly that my goggles filled with blood, and I was exhausted, but I was victorious. I had made it through the tunnel. I bragged to my mother about how long I could stay underwater. She told me not to swim anymore that day when she saw that I had banged my head, and I didn't protest. I had made it through the tunnel.
