"Hunting locus trees wasn't much fun anymore by now!"
It was a hot, dusty September day and all us kids were board and didn't now what to do. "I remember one hot dry September of the dirt roads where i lived."
Lizabeth the main character/narrator and all the kids argued about wha they should do. They didn't think finding locus was much fun anymore, But they finally decided to go to miss Lotties and mess with her and her marigolds.
All the kids went off to Miss Lotties to mess with her and her marigolds. They all dared Lizabeth to do something funny and she sang a song. "Old witch fell in a ditch picked up a penny and thought she was rich"
Lizabeth woke her brother up for an adventure not realizing she would angrily destroy Miss Lotties flowers. "I leaped furiously into the mounds of marigolds and pulled madly trampling and pulling destroying the perfect yellow blooms."
After destroying the marigolds Lizabeth realized it was childish and she needed to grow up soon. "And there was the moment when childhood faded and woman hood began."
Lizabeth remembers how childish she was that night, and she still regrets it. But she has planted marigold too. "and i too have planted marigolds"
