Storyboard Text

  • Afrikaners, Dutch settlers in South Africa, took over the South African government from the British in 1948.
  • This is our land now!
  • The Afrikaners implemented the system of apartheid.
  • Let's come up with a system where we can be separate from the Africans.
  • At birth, South Africans were classified into 1 of 4 races: white, asian, colored, or black.
  • Your race determined where you could live, attend school, work, shop, and own land.
  • So unfair!
  • Blacks were restricted as to occupation and were paid lower wages than whites.
  • We need a change immediately.
  • Apartheid laws repealed in 1991, but the racism and legacy of the apartheid still remains today.
  • This is still really unfair...
