In this scene, the husband comes home from work and needs to talk with his wife. He doesn't love her anymore and wants to just leave her, as he is drinking some whiskey. So Mary doesn't say anything to him and just gets up to go get something.
I'm afraid he is gone...
Mary is now going to the freezer. She had just planned to get him something, but instead she got a frozen lamb leg from their freezer. She knew exactly what she was going to do.
Mary goes back to Patrick and while he isn't looking, walks over and hits him across the head with the frozen leg, bashing in his head a few times with it. Now to hide that she did it, she put the leg in the oven to cook it. The grocer brought over her groceries for her and she was able to hide the body till he left. then, she called the police
The short story element of Style (irony) enhances the short story element of plot (surprise ending)
A detective comes over and examines the body as he then pronounces patrick as dead. Mary is just sitting down and faking a crying scene as she is 'morning' for her husband now. they talk for a bit as she is asked questions about what happened. but she is not able to answer many. After a few hours of working, she remembered the lamb leg in the oven. so she takes it out.
After it cools off and she makes a full on dinner with it, she invites the detectives to eat and they do decide to join her. they talk about how the evidence could be right under their noses, when truthfully, it was exactly under their noses.
Enjoy the meal!
The short story element of Conflict (Person v.s. Person) soenhances the short story element of Theme (Death)
