I've started teaching my students how to codeswitch. I think it's important to have a place for black language in the classroom, so I've started teaching them the differences and when it's appropriate to use each.
You know, that can be really harmful to your students. You might not realize that's language discrimination, but it is.
You don't want your students to internalize that idea BL is lesser than CWE. Instead, teach your students about both equally, as their own languages that are both valued equally in your classroom.
A good place to start is by teaching your students about the history of BL. If they know the background and can pinpoint its unique features, they will appreciate much more.
