Storyboard Text

  • Physical Stages of Development of a Newborn
  • Rooting Reflex (sucking)
  • Habituation
  • William James suggested that newborns experience a "blooming buzzing confusion" but also at the same time babies communicate a lot and you just have to know how to read them, just like a book in this library.
  • Visual Preference (face like image)
  • At the movie theater, the mother was touching her baby to make him more comfortable and when she touches his cheek, he turns toward that touch and opens his mouth looking to eat.
  • 8-12 Inches
  • The family wants to take their baby to a Saturday night party to show him off to all their friends. At the party, he had a decreased amount of responsiveness with repeated simulation. People kept trying to play with him and talk to him, but he would cry or just fall asleep.
  •
  • THE END
  • People showed infants a series of pictures of an animal on a board and then they showed them a hybrid of two animals. If they saw cats before they would recognize the cat more in the mix of the two.
  • We prefer to look at objects 8-12 inches away, so when breastfeeding, it is that exact distance and that is why it is so comfortable.
