Storyboard Text

  • These colonists are going to be the death of me
  • Excerpt 1
  • This is treason!
  • Excerpt 2
  • Sir I have a message from the Colonies
  • Ah just discard of that garbage!
  • Excerpt 3
  • "that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connections between them and the state of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved"
  • Interpretation of Excerpt 1
  • We declare independence!
  • "In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms; our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury "
  • Interpretation of Excerpt 2
  • What an outrage!
  • The King has yet to reply to any of our messages!
  • No taxation without representation!
  • "He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures"
  • Interpretation of Excerpt 3
  • This is outrageous! We cannot afford to care for more people!
  • The Colonies are not and no longer have to be loyal to Great Britain's king, parliament, and rule and there is no longer a political connection between them. The colonists are a new nation and have all the rights as an independent nation.
  • The colonists have requested, various times, for King George III to come to terms with them. However, with each attempt he answered with more restrictions and punishments
  • He will continue to punish us!
  • This must come to an end!
  • King George the III kept a constant presence of the British Military, which the colonists must take in, care for, and pay, without giving the Colonies representation in the government. This infringes on the colonists' private domain and their rights as citizens. Because there is no war, there should be no army consequently making them feel threatened.
  • Why are soldiers necessary during times of peace?
