Storyboard Description

Rosemary’s lease money from the drilling land in Texas disappears out no nowhere. Rex claims he has no clue where it could have went. The family is soon to run out of grocery money, and Jeannette was not making enough babysitting. She then sees a help wanted sign in the store of Becker’s Jewel box. While selling jewelry, Jeannette sees a watch that catches her eye. She then takes the watch, but brings it right back because she feels guilty. Rosemary claims she’s sick she doesn’t want to work anymore. Her and Jeannette then get into a screaming match. Jeannette tells her she needs to act more like a mom. Which leads to Rex getting involved, and Jeannette having the same attitude towards him leads to her getting the belt.

  • "Let's hide it together." (214)
  • Hmmm, where could that check be...?
  • I need to make more money to help the family out!
  • Becker's Jewel Box
  • HELP WANTED
  • Rosemary tells Jeannette to expect a check for the lease on her Texas land. Although Jeannette was told to hide it immediately-for her father would steal it-Jeannette hid the check where her father had told her to. 
  • I wish Mr. Becker would just pay me my commisions. 
  • The next day, Jeannette went to rehide the check. As she had partially expected, it was gone. Rex claimed he did not know what happened to the check, but everyone knew he stole it. 
  • "Why do I always have to be the one who earns the money?" (218)
  • The family is about to run out of grocery money, and Rex keeps stealing the land checks. Jeannette has not been making much money babysitting, so she decided to apply at Becker's Jewel Box. She tells Mr.Becker she is 17 and gets the job.

  • Apologize!
  • While working at the store, Jeannette sees a watch that catches her eye. She decides to steal the watch because she finds out she should be making much more with her commision. She brought the watch back very quickly because of her guilt. 
  • Rosemary claims she is too sick to go to school. She decides she no longer wants to work. Jeannette tells her she needs to start acting more like a mother, causing them to get into an argument. 
  • Rosemary told Rex about her and Jeannette's altercation. Rex decided to talk to Jeannette about it. Jeannette got an the same attitude with him, leading to her getting beat with his belt.
