Story was about a little old man who loved to make toys for children all over world. The children would write him letters but he never learned to read. He had no interest in learning to read.
One day the wife had to go on a short trip and she made him aware that he was going to be responsible for getting groceries that week.
This isn't spaghetti, it's wax paper. This isn't spaghetti sauce, it's coffee.
The little old man went to the grocery store and began to shop for soup, milk, oatmeal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce among other things.
I am so glad you're home!
Since the man didn't know how to read, he saw a can that looked like spaghetti, a can that looked like spaghetti sauce and put it in his cart. He did the same thing with the milk and oatmeal.
When he got home and began to cook dinner, he realized that what he bought was not what he thought. He then had to go to bed without dinner. The next day he went without breakfast because he got salt instead of oatmeal.
When his wife arrived at night, he told her what had happened and insisted on her teaching him how to read. Once he learned to read, he was able to read all the letters the children would write to him about his hand-made toys.
