Text Structure - Descriptive
Prudence's school was disliked by many, nobody really liked African-American people. Especially them being educated in their town. Prudence reused to close down her new school and continued teaching the young pupils. As a result, anonymous citizens threw rocks and rotten eggs at the school's windows. In 1834, it is to be believed that someone lit the schoolhouse on fire!
"Instantly. Olney pressed his ear against the wall. Flames were roaring behind the panels. Then he raced through the door and outside. There, just above one of the first-floor windows, a little flame sparked. Olney dashed a tub of water against the wall, grabbed an ax from Charles Harris, and began chopping at the side of the house" (89)

Mindset - Growth
Although many citizens of Canterburry scoffed and glared at the thought of Prudence's all-black Female school, Prudence never backed down against these people.
The author quoted the coachman to show that Prudence had more people on her side than she had thought and express the feedback Prudence experienced with real words.

Aha! -Prudence had been given 2 trial dates because the Jury could not come to decide whether Prudence was guilty or not - Throughout the entire story, May has been loyal and by her side, helping her through each of her conflicts Huh? - The town still has not approved of Prudence's all-black female school and continues to show acts of violence towards her and the schoolgirls

SWBS Prudence wanted to have a successful, all-black, girls school, but, Judson and Adams issued an arrest warrant towards her in an attempt to frighten Miss Crandal into closing her school, but she was arrested and plead not guilty. So, Prudence had to face trial in August and be a victim to acts of vandalism and cruelty towards her school.
