Storyboard Text

  • Proclamation of 1763
  • We will not let the colonists settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. It is Indian land.
  • Townshend Acts 1767
  • If the British are going to tax us on everything we use, then we just won't pay them.
  • YEAH!!!
  • Boston Massacre 1770
  • FIRE!!
  • So many colonists had to move because of the new law saying they couldn't live west of the Appalachians mountains. They were very upset, so they started protesting.
  • The Tea Act 1773
  • Ok, we're on the ship. Now what?
  • The Townshend Acts were when the colonists were mad at the British for taxing them, so they boycotted things like glass, paint, lead, paper, and tea.
  • The Intolerable Acts 1774
  • Because of the colonist's unforgivable behavior, the Britians and I have agreed that there is no other choice but to punish them. We must pass more laws.
  • In the Boston Massacre, the colonists were throwing snowballs at the British soldiers. There was chaos, people were shouting, throwing things, then someone from the crowd yelled "fire".British started shooting, killing more than 11 people in the process.
  • The First Continental Congress 1774
  • They will not control us. They will not shut down our main ports or take away our homes.
  • The Boston tea party was when the sons of liberty dressed up as Indians and snuck on the ship. They did this because the taxes were too high on the tea and that was their way of protesting. Even though the British lowered the tax.
  • Now, we dump the buckets of tea so the British don't tax us for it.
  • In 1774, the British passed new acts as punishments for the Boston tea party. The laws said there would be no more town meetings, the Boston harbor closed, and the colonists had to house and feed the soldiers(quartering act).
  • We need to keep our land in order.
  • The colonists were so fed up with the British controlling and taxing them so in 1774 Ben Franklin decided to get 9/13 colonies together to discuss what they should do. They came up with the idea of creating their own country and calling it America.
  • Let us unite as one. We are not Virginians, we are Americans
