  • Ginny, the stock marker crashed, and all our money we put in there is gone now. The prices of all stocks fell dramatically.
  • James, what are we going to do ? We are running out of money again, just like when you came back from the war!
  • Ginny, I found out that my boss is paying me less than before. Moreover, our factory is now overproducing a lot of products because people cannot afford them anymore, unlike before.
  • Oh no!
  • We are also relying on Germany to pay our war debt for us.
  • Noooo! You are the only person who is making money in our house, and now you are like me!
  • I lost my job...
  • During 1920s to 1930s, Canada's economy was declining. On October 29th, 1929, the New York Stock Exchange Collapsed.
  • Ok...
  • The stock market's crash progressed to a decade-long depression in Canada and around the world. James just came back from work; however, he found out that he is getting paid less than before.
  • Thank God!
  • On the next day, when James came back from work, he told Ginny that the factory closed its door and he loses his job.
  • As the Depression deepened, more and more factories and businesses closed their doors. James and Ginny are forced to move out, and find another place to live.
  • Sorry Ginny, we have to live here for now because we cannot afford to pay a higher rent.
  • One day, James heard that the government relief payments given to those who did not have an alternative source of income called "pogey", so he decided to exchange for some food and other essentials.
  • Ginny, the government is giving out food to anyone who has no money to afford food, I am going to get some food from the government!
  • The Social Credit financial policies, which denounced the traditional banks and promised to pay $25/month to people in Alberta to boost the economy, appealed to farmers who were heavily in debt.
  • I also heard that the Social Credit Party is giving us 25 dollars every month to buy necessities
