  • A Hurricane is: 'a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean' some ofthe winds during hurricane Harvey were recorded at 215 kilometres per hour
  • When Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas Aug. 25, 2017, as a Category 4 hurricane, it became the country’s first major — Category 3 or higher — hurricane since Wilma hit Florida in October 2005 and the first major hurricane to strike southern Texas since Celia in 1970. It kicked off a historically destructive 2017 storm season for the Caribbean and southern U.S.
  • Hurricane Harvey started as a wave just off the coast of Africa it started off moving at around 38 Mph once it reached the gulf of mexico the wind was moving at around 70-90 mph this is a category 1 hurricane from this point the wind rapidly increased in speed (about 111-129 mph) this means it was a category three hurricane, as it progressed closer to the coast it got up to speeds of 130-156 mph this means it was a category 4 hurricane the strongest hurricane since 1970
  • it is believed that 82 people died as a result of Hurricane Harvey or the flooding that occurred afterwards
