Amelia traveled to Toronto to visit her sister at this time there was a delicate balance of power in Europe and tension were on a rise. In 1914, World War 1 erupted and Amelia noticed how bad it was and wrote to her mother about it.
Amelia had learned a lot at Ogontz and was ready to move on to the next thing she felt called to do. In her book 20 Hrs., 40 Min, Amelia would write: "there is so much that must be done in a civilized barbarism like war"
Amelia withdrew from Ogontz and moved to Toronto, becoming a nurse's aid at the Spadina Military Hospital.
