Storyboard Text

  • Texas v. Johnson
  • "America, the red, white, and blue, we spit on you, you stand for plunder, you will go under"
  • In Dallas, Texas, in 1984 there was a protest against the war and people were vandalizing businesses and shouting chants.
  • Texas tried and convicted Johnson for burning the flag because it was unlawful and upset many people.
  • The constitutional issue is that convicting him would go against the first amendment which is his freedom of speech.
  • The outcome of the case is 5-4 , the court ruled that Johnson's burning of the flag was protected by the first amendment.
  • We can now protest more freely and in different ways
  • The End
