Everything was normal from the start. That was the time when I actually enjoyed life. That is until we were to be deported from Sighet. That's when everything changed.
Everyone was forced onto the cattle car to who knows where. From then on, everything will be different.
Women were sent to the right and men to the left. This was the last time I saw my mother and sister.
Everyday, all we did was work and sit in the barracks. They weren't very nice places to stay. They were always crowded.
The run to Gleiwitz was dreadful. It was cold and we were forced to run as fast as we could. If we happened to stop, we were shot dead on the spot. SS were standing around waiting for someone else to stop.
On April Tenth, that was the day when the American tank stood at the gates. We were now free men. Saved from this horrid place. Through all the hardships, we were alive.
