  • Working with representatives from their sister school (Randwick Girls High School), an activity was planned to provide opportunities for older girls to speak to younger boys about how girls feel when they experience negative behaviour from boys.
  • We should respect girls. Overall, men and women are equal
  • A Respect Quiz was designed to encourage reflection and discussion about respectful relationships. This was developed in consultation with the Department of Education and Training, and the Principals Workshop facilitator, Dr Sue Dyson (La Trobe University).
  • Randwick Boys High
  • 25 girls from Year 11 Randwick Girls High helped to facilitate the quiz and discussion with groups of Year 7 boys. The Year 12 student prefects from Randwick Boys High provided positive male examples for the younger students and supported the facilitation.
  • The aim of the activity was to introduce strategies to foster respectful relationships between students in years 7 to 9; to get students to reflect on their own behaviour and peer norms; and challenge the idea about women being inferior to men.
  • The school is striving to define masculinity and leadership more broadly, particularly around non-physical, co-operative behaviours. They are also looking at ways to empower women in non-executive roles in the school.
