Diana got a call this morning about a previous business interview that she had gone to a few days ago. Adam, the boss of the bank she had gone to the interview for, called asking for her to come by the bank this afternoon.
Diana believed that this was a good sign and that she must have gotten the job. So, she quickly rode the bus over to the bank expecting some hopefully good news.
She walked in Adam's office at exactly 2 o'clock (right when he told her to be there). She saw him sitting in his chair at his desk waiting on her, he motioned for her to sit down, and she quietly sat down in the seat next to him.
Then Adam said, " I am going to be honest with you, one other person got interviewed for this position, and you are both equally as qualified. Well, you are a little more qualified than he is but that is not our concern here, our concern is that you are a woman." Diana looked at him shocked and said, "What does that have to do with anything ?" Adam responded, " You are a 5'3'' white female with hazel eyes and straight brown shoulder length hair, that isn't what we want working here."
Diana stood up in disbelief of what she was hearing, and walked out of his office. She slammed the office door behind her and paused in the middle of the hallway, diving her face into the palms of her hands. She tried to gather herself together before walking down the rest of the hallway and out of the building. Just as she did this, she heard a man walk out of the office next to her and close the door. He must not have noticed that she was there because he threw his arms into the air while scream shouting "yes !"
She realized that this man must have gotten the position that she wanted simply because he was a man. Then, Diana stormed out of the building in disbelief of the gender discrimination she had just experienced.
