  • Martin Luther and the Scala Sancta
  • 95 Theses
  • Schism (multiple popes), simony (buying church jobs), and indulgences caused reformers to speak out.
  • Five Solas
  • After he became a monk, Martin climbed the stairs on his knees, which he heard would forgive his sins. Afterwards, he questioned this.
  • Diet of Worms
  • Martin Luther showed what he believed, in the form of 95 points in what he thought the church was wrong in. He thought that only faith could get people to heaven, no money. He believed indulgences were worthless and only took away peoples' salaries.
  • Translation
  • In the midst of reformation, the five solas were created by reformersto protect the true ways to believe and worship: Sola scriptura (Scripture alone), Sola fide (faith alone) ,Sola gratia (grace alone), Solo Christo (Christ alone), and Soli Deo gloria (to the glory of God alone).
  • The 95 theses caused Martin Luther to be arrested, and his trial is known as the diet of worms. When asked if he accounted his writings, he said no. Fearing Luther would be burned, some of his followers ambushed him and took him to safety.
  • Luther changed his name to Junker Jorg and residence Wartburg Castle. There, he translated the bible from Latin to German. Martin Luther helped all Germans to learn scripture.
