  • Hannibal was considered one of the most  brilliant generals the Romans ever faces.  He lead an army of elephants and soldiers across the Alps. Despite many loses Hannibal was victorious over Rome for the first two years of  the Second Punic War. Hannibals greatest victory over the Romans  was the Battle of Cannae.

  • The Romans refused to be defeated. A Roman general  Cornelius    Scipio adopted Hannibal's battle strategy.  He fought the Carthaginians    army and also prevented Hannibal from getting reinforcements.
  • Scipio went to Africa and invaded Carthage. The Romans won the battle. There ladder was a peace   treaty signed between Carthage and the Romans. Spain was made into two different Roman provinces. Rome became the leading power of the western  Mediterranean.

  • Rome focused on the  eastern Mediterranean. They became involved in many wars.   They seized countries like Greece.  They razed other countries and continued to grow. The king of Pergamon died and left  his kingdom to Rome. Rome had established  seven provinces on the continents.  They were Sicily and Sardinia, Corsica, Spain, Africa, Asia, and Macedonia-Greece.
