Henry Bolingbrook and Thomas Mowbray quarrel. Bolingbrook accuses Mowbray of mismanaging military funds and helping to plot the murder of the dead Duke of Gloucester.
They are both exiled - Bolingbrook for six years, Mowbray for life.
John of Gaunt tries to advise Richard. He criticizes him for impoverishing the nation. John then shortly dies, and Richard seizes his assets.
Richard heads off to war in Ireland, leaving the Duke of York in charge
Bolingbroke takes over the kingdom and Richard is forced to abdicate. Bolinbroke becomes a king loved by his people.
Richard is imprisoned, and is later killed in prison.
