  • No, No no: divorce is impossible in Catholicism...and the King of Spain would wage war on us if  ever I accept this demand!!
  • In order to have a baby son, he decided to divorce his wife Catherine; therefore he asked the Pope for permission.
  • But the Ppope refus: divorce was not possible in the Catholic Church (and anyway, Catherine of Aragon was a member of the Spanish Royal family, which was too powerful to become an enemy of Christianity and the Pope if ever the Pope accepted)
  • The king was angry at the refusal but decided to divorce anyway. He created his own church and wrote it into the law that divorce was now possible.
  • After that, he married Anne Boleyn but they had another daughter. The king still wanted a son but his new wife could not give birth to a male heir.
  • So the king beheaded his wife (with a sword), so that he could have another wife.
