Martin Luther was born in 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. He studied law at the University of Erfurt in 1501 to 1505. One day lightning struck near him and he took it as a sign. He pleaded to St Anne 'Save me and I will become a monk!"
Martin lived and within two weeks he withdrew from law and entered a monastery. The church then sent him on a diplomatic mission to Rome focusing on their corruption and selling of indulgences .
On his mission, Martin discovered the selling of indulgences. He disagreed with this act as the church was taking money from people and guaranteeing them 'Tickets to heaven' during the time of the plague. To preach against the act Martin found where the church and the Bible disagreed and nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenburg Castle Church on October 31st.
Because of Martin Luther nailing the 95 Theses to the door of the church, the church started losing a lot of money. This sparked anger which Martin Luther didn't intend on doing. He was excommunicated because of this. He then decided to translate the Bible because he thought if the people saw it they would turn against the church.
People decided that if one person had their own beliefs, they could put their own spin on Catholicism. This lead to many different religions and individual beliefs. This started Lutheranism.
wasThe church was split and reformed. This was better for the people as their money wasn't being scammed and they weren't being lied to. The pope did not hold all the power now and heretics were not executed. People were free to have their own beliefs.
