  • The French Revolution was a period of time in France when the people overthrew the monarchy and took control of the government. The French Revolution took place from 1789 to 1799.
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • There were many factors that led to the French Revolution. Some include a growing resentment among lower classes, new ideas about government, serious economic problems, weak and indecisive leadership, and a shortage of food.
  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The Estates General was an assembly of representatives from all estates to vote for a new tax to be placed on the second estate.
  • The Great Fear
  • The 3rd Estate was meeting for the National Assembly in their usual meeting room, but they weren't able to get in. They broke down a door to an indoor tennis court and began to meet there. The oath was they weren't going to leave until they make a new constitution.
  • Some rumors were going around in Paris so the people of the Third Estate began to gather weapons to defend Paris. A mob was searching for gunpower stormed the Bastille, which was a prison in Paris. The attackers killed guards and commanders and put their heads on pikes.
  • The Great fear was a wave of senseless panic through France where peasants became outlaws themselves. The peasants broke into nobles' manors burned documents that made them pay dues.
