Hitler's Troubled Childhood
Origins of Nazism
Adolf Hitler was born on the April 20th 1889 at the Braunau Am Inn in Austria. In 1903 his father died and later in 1907 his mother died. That year in 1907 he was rejected from the Vienna Academy of Art. He couldn't escape poverty and lived on the streets, working as a painter and ate his meals in a soup kitchen.
In 1914 Adolf Hitler enlisted in the German Army. He joined the Barvarian Reserve Infantry Regiment. He distinguished himself in service, being promoted to corporal and decorated with the Iron Cross for services as a runner on the western front.
In 1920 he joins the German Workers’ Party, an extreme anti-communist, anti-Semitic right wing organization. He later changes the party’s name to the National Socialist German Workers Party, (NAZI). In 1933 Hitler becomes Fuehrer and Reich Chancellor.
