  • There are so many kids around the world who show all kinds of courage. Some risk there lives just to show up to school! We know about their stories because they did REALLY BIG acts of courage that helped lots of other kids. Courage is all about facing something or someone scary. Personal courage is all about doing this in your own life and can happen every day at places like school or at home!
  • Let's look at some times where we might need to use personal courage. Bobby and Lisa are two kids on the school bus. In this story, you're Lisa. You see that Bobby is trying to do his homework on the bus and kids are making fun of him, calling him a nerd. One kid is threatening to steal his notebook. What are three different ways you can help Bobby? What is scary about helping him?
  • Bobby and Lisa are at a Boy Scout campout. One of the older kids starts telling stories that make both of you uncomfortable. You notice some of the other kids are enjoying them but you know this is something you shouldn't be talking about. What are three different ways you can make this better? What might be scary or difficult about showing personal courage in this situation?
  • Bobby and Lisa are twins and are at home trying to go to sleep. You're Bobby in this story. Your younger sister, Sarah, came into the room and started trying to steal Lisa's Barbies so she can pull all of their hair out. Lisa is clearly upset and is crying. What are three different ways you can help Lisa? What might be difficult or scary about trying to show personal courage when it's your family?
  • Lisa is at Darren's house on a Saturday. You're Lisa in this story. Darren starts crying and talks about his parents. He says it feels like his parents don't love him and aren't nice to him. They do lots of things that make him uncomfortable, sad, confused, or angry. What are three different ways you can be a good friend? What do you NEED to do to help Darren?
  • Bobby and Lisa play baseball. You're Bobby in this story. Your parents keep talking about how proud they are of you for playing baseball and keep talking about how they're excited for you to grow up and play baseball for a long time. You don't really like playing baseball and don't want to be on the team. What are three different ways you can stand up for yourself? What might bescary about showing personal courage?
