  • 1. Glucose is broken down in cytoplasm
  • Stage 1
  • Take a seat.
  • Stage 2
  • Stage 1
  • 1. Glucose is broken down in cytoplasm
  • 3. No oxygen
  • 2. Gives off a little energy.
  • Stage 1
  • Cellular respiration occurs in two stages.  I use the glucose that I obtain from both food and the air around me. In the first stage, the glucose is  broken down in the cytoplasm of my cells. This stage gives off only a small amount of energy and does not require any oxygen.
  • 1. In the mitochondria
  • Stage 2
  • Stage 2
  • I'm not done yet.
  • What happens in the second-
  • 3. No oxygen
  • 2. Gives off a little energy.
  • Woah.
  • I actually get most of my energy from the second stage.
  • Why are you standing up? Go sit down.
  • 1. Glucose is broken down in cytoplasm
  • 3. No oxygen
  • 2. Gives off a little energy.
  • The second stage takes places in the mitochondria, where the molecules broken down in the first stage are broken down further. This process does use some energy, but not nearly as much as it gives off. This does require oxygen.
  • 2. Molecules are broken down further
  • 4. Uses energy, but not as much as it releases
  • 3.Uses oxygen
  • Cellular respiration also produces carbon dioxide and water. I breathe out the carbon dioxide that you need for photosynthesis.
  • That is so cool!
