  • My books do not cease my sorrow of the death of Lenore.
  • Rising Action
  • There was an old man sitting in his chair reading; he was almost asleep. It was midnight in the month of December.
  • Climax
  • Tell me that I will clasp the sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore.
  • Nevermore.
  • An old man sits in his chair, pondering weak and weary over his book. He is sorrowful about the death of Lenore.
  • Falling Action
  • Leave me alone! Flutter away from the statue of Pallas above my chamber door!
  • Nevermore.
  • The raven enters the man's chamber, paying no attention to him. Then the raven perches above the old man's chamber door on a statue of Pallas.
  • Resolution
  • The old man asks the raven if he will ever see Lenore again. The raven responds by saying, "Nevermore." The man becomes very angry.
  • No, you thing of evil, it can't be!
  • After the raven tells him that he will never see Lenore again, he tells the bird to leave the statue above his door. He wants to be left alone.
  • The bird stays perched on the bust of Pallas above the man's chamber door.
