Federation Referendum of Australia
Vote YES or NO FOR FEDERATION
Finally everyone agreed!
On the 24th of October, 1889, Henry Parkes gave a speech to Australia called the Tenterfield Oration that gave an urge to the colonies to federate.
I'm Australia's first Prime Minister, Edmund Barton!
Between the 2nd of June, 1898 and 31st of July, 1900, a series of referendums were held to decide if Australia should become a nation. Australia was the first country to vote to federate and not decide by having a war.
When all of the colonies first came together to decide whether to federate all of them agreed except for Western Australia. Western Australia was one of the wealthier colonies and was worried that they would have to share their wealth. The second time the colonies came together Western Australia agreed.
