Storyboard Text

  • Bruno
  • "Of course I don't like it! It's awful."
  • Gretel
  • "It's not very nice, is it?"
  • Maria
  • "Then it's a mistake we will all have to live with."
  • Bruno is a young German boy who is very confused as to why his family has moved to this strange new house.  He was also very angry at his maid for packing his things without his consent, and that seems to sum up his attitude towards authority.  He is nine years old, not six.
  • Father
  • "Those people, well, they're not people at all, Bruno."
  • Gretel is a twelve-year-old German  girl.  She loves her dolls and is very "mature", though she is described as "a lost cause" by her brother, Bruno.  She is very unsure about the new house they are staying in, but tries to make the best of a bad situation.  She enjoys treating Bruno poorly in her spare time.
  • Shmuel
  • "You don't have any food on you, do you?"
  • Maria is a presumably 20-ish year old maid who works for Bruno's family.  She was hired by Bruno's father when she was in dire need of money, and has been with his family ever since.  Though she may be unhappy about the new house, she will not listen to anything bad about Bruno's father, because of all of the good he did for her.
  • Lieutenant Kotler
  • "Little Man!"
  • Bruno's father is a commandant and has  moved his family to this new house that Bruno calls "Out With".  He is probably around forty years old and totally "understands" Bruno's concerns about the new house.  He is angered quite easily.  He refuses to truly explain to the situation to his children, who become very curious.
  • Shmuel is a nine year old boy locked behind the gates of a concentration camp.   He is described as very thin and frail. His father was a watch maker, and he still holds on to the memories of the normal life he had.  One day, he meets a rather ignorant boy named Bruno, outside of the Auschwitz gate, and Bruno brings him food and they compare lives.  This boy is very different.
  • Lieutenant Kotler is one of Father's soldiers who can go on the other side of the fence.  He is very rude to Bruno, and tends to be at the house as much as possible.  He visited Mother constantly, until one day Father came home late at night, and he was sent away.  Bruno was quite happy after that.  Kotler is described as having a clean uniform just like Father, and the same booming voice.
