  • Federalists vs anti-federalists
  • Us federalists think that we should all follow the constitution instead of the articles of confederation
  • We are anti-federalist and we want the government to stay weak so people still have freedom  
  • Amendments
  • Amendment 2:Right to bear arms. Amendment 4:No search and seizure without a warrant. Amendment 7: In Civil Suits ,you have a jury trail. Amendment 9: People have other rights Amendment 13: End slavery Amendment 19: women can vote    
  • American government influencers
  • William Blackstone: He wrote Commentaries on the Laws of England which contributed to the development of  self-government in the colonies.
  • John Locke : Believed that people have certain Unalienable rights-human rights can not be taken away.
  • Thomas Hooker: Puritan who founded Connecticut and contributed to the  development of self-government.
  • Federalism: the states can make laws about Education,The national government controls the Military,and both can tax.
  • Limited Government: Unlike the King, who the the colonists felt was doing whatever he wanted,the US government has limits to its power. The Constitution spells out what the government can and can't do.
  • Republicanism: Voting for a president.            
  • Principles of Government
  • Strengths 1. Gave the new government power to declare war. 2. Make peace treaties.    3. Sign treaties. 4. Borrow money.
  • Articles of Confederation
  • Weaknesses 1. Congress couldn't collect taxes. 2. Congress couldn't regulate interstate or foreign trade. 3. Each state only had 1 vote in Congress. 4. 9 out of 13 states had to agree on a law.
  • William Penn: Founded Pennsylvania and contributed to the development of self-government in the colonies with the ideas of 1.Freedom of religion and democracy .2. Tax-paying males could vote. 3. bicameral legislature.
  • Checks and Balances: The president can veto a bill.The Legislature can impeach. The Supreme Court can declare laws "unconstitutional".
  • Individual Rights: Freedom of Speech,Freedom of Religion,Freedom to Quit our job.
