  • Hello, today I will be talking about the Earth's crust.
  • Hope you enjoy!
  • by~Lauren Nazario Karis AIG Project
  • Basic Facts About the Crust: -Is the outermost layer of our planet -Less than 1% of the entire Earth's size -Can be up to 43 miles thick -Made mostly of granite
  • The Earth's crust is a beautiful thing; it is what we live on!
  • The continental crust is the solid layer that is covered by land. It has a light color and is made mostly out of granite. Above the granite is sedimentary rock, which is made up of decayed plants and animals.  Its overall temperature is about 22 degrees Celsius.
  • The Earth's crust plays a VERY important role in shaping Earth's features.
  • Underneath the ocean is the oceanic crust. This part was created by basalt lava flows, which have come from erupted volcanoes from the last millions of years. The oceanic crust is more dense than the continental crust. This part is mostly made up of silicon, oxygen, and aluminum.
  • -The continental crust is deepest in mountainous areas.  It can be up to 70 km thick. -The oceanic crust is about 8 km thick. -The continental and oceanic crusts are bonded to the mantle.
  • I hope you learned something about the Earth's crust!
