Pyramus and Thisbe live in the city of Babylon, where their families have been neighbours all their lives. The two lovers families hate each other and forbid the two to get married.
The two find a crack in the wall that separates the two houses and whisper through it whenever they can. They plan to sneak out of their house, they will meet by the mulberry tree, next to a tomb of a man called Ninus.
Thisbe arrives at the tomb first. Just then, a lion comes by with a mouth covered in blood. Thisbe was petrified! She ran away so fast, that she left her shawl under the mulberry tree.
When Pyramus finally shows up, he sees the lion tearing up the bloody shawl and assumes the worst. That Thisbe has been devoured. Overcome with grief, Pyramus stabs himself with his sword.
By the time Thisbe comes back, Pyramus is almost dead. The last thing he sees before he dies is the face of his true love, Thisbe.
Thisbe is so depressed when she figures out what happened. She decides to take Pyramus's and stabs herself too. Now both their blood is on the mulberry tree, But the mulberries are no longer white, but instead red.
