" Come on round here, son, i got something that'll settle your stomach. "
" Scout, it's nothing but Coca-Cola. "
" Yeah. Glad t've metcha, Mr. Raymond, and thanks for the drink, it was mighty settlin' . "
Scout and Dill were outside after Dill got upset in the courtroom. They had to leave the courtroom and come outside. They then found Mr. Raymond laying down under the shade of a tree. Mr. Raymond saw that Dill was upset and offered him a drink of what was in his brown sack.
" Shoot, we missed it. "
As Dill took a sip of Mr. Raymond drink , he realized that it was not alcohol but only a Coca-Cola. He was always known for drinking alcohol in his sack, but they found out what they had been told was a lie. Mr. Raymond then explained that he does that because it helps to comfort the people of Maycomb.
" Gentlemen, "
" I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion, the evidence you have , come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. "
As scout remembered that there is still a case going on in the courtroom, she grabbed Dill to run back inside. But before they left, Dill thanked Mr. Raymond for the drink and said goodbye then was off indie the courthouse.
Scout and Dill had ran up the stairs to reach the courtroom to watch the case. Once they got their they saw that they had missed the cross examination done by Mr. Gilmer on Tom Robinson. They realized that they has also missed the beginning of Atticus's speech to the jury.
In the middle of his speech, Scout and Jem saw something that hey have never seen Atticus do before. Atticus unbuttoned his vest, and his collar. He then loosened his tie, and took off his coat. This was something they knew of Atticus to not do ever.
Atticus ends his speech with the hope that the jury is on his side. He wished that they will see Tom as an innocent person who deserves to go back with his family. He hopes that they will see the case and come to the decision without passion and in the name of God, help him.
