Kevin is a college student at the University of Memphis, who is in need of service hours. He applied and got a volunteer job at a church. The church told him that if he got a ladder and got all the leaves out of the gutters, he could have as many services hours as he needed.
Kevin has three main areas that he needs to get. These are: infant of the bell, the side down the left of the bell, and down the right of the bell.
Kevin gets a ladder and attempts to place it to the left of the bell. He has an 26ft ladder, and knows that this part of the church is 18ft high. He now needs to find the angle that the ladder needs to be placed at, so he does sin^-1= (18/26). He finds out that x= 44 . Kevin is looking at a 44 angle.
Kevin now moves onto the middle part. This part is taller then the other part, so he doesn't know how tall this part of the church is. He does know that the ladder is still 26ft long and he's still looking up at a 44 angle. With this information, Kevin did sin44= x / 26, 26sin44, which gave him x= 18ft. This part of the building is 18ft tall
As soon as Kevin cleans out that part of the gutter, he has to move onto the far right side. He is still using a 26ft ladder and is still looking at the top at a 44 angle. Kevin needs to find how far away the ladder needs to be from the wall. He uses cos44= x / 26, 26cos44, which gave him x= 19ft. He needs to be 19ft away.
Kevin is now done with cleaning the gutters and has all of his service hours for college.
