Returning home from work, Winston pulls out a journal and begins writing about how is day went
Winston recalls turning towards his television screen, which shows an image of "Big Brother". The Party uses the televisions as cameras to make sure a citizen is not commiting a crime against the party
He then recalls a women who walks into the 2 Minutes Hate room. He describes how she looks and what shes wearing, but then explains how he feels an "atmosphere of hockey fields and cold baths". (Orwell 9)
The two minutes of hate began, causing an uproar of rage and hostility to be thrown at a face on the screen in front of them. It was the face of a man named Emmanuel Goldberg. Emanuel was known for his treasonous ways towards the party, and trying to enforce freedom of speech and basic human rights and is now looked at with fear and disgust.
When the 2 minutes hate were over, Big Brothers face apeared on the screen, causing comfert and cheers in the group of people. The Sandy haired women Winston described extented her arms and yelled "My Savior!" The whole group of people then started a" rhythmical chant of "B-B!...B-B!...B-B!"
At one point, a large hairy man named O'Brian had stood up. As he was standing, him and Winston had made eye contact, and Winston had felt as if O'Brian had shared the same emotions, like their thoughts were flowing into each other like "I am with you"
