Lauren is a 34 year old single parent with her 3 children, Taylor who is 14, Allie who is 7, and Jennie who is 5. Lauren recently lost her apartment and doesn't know what to do.
What are we going to do now?
Lauren was fired from her fast food job two years ago and hasn't been able to get a job since then. Lauren and her daughters have been living off of savings, and they are starting to run out, and can no longer pay for their apartment.
You've been late too many times! You're fired!
Lauren wanted the best for her daughters, so she began looking for programs she could apply for to get her family back on their feet. When she was looking, she found Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
This is perfect!
TANF provided Lauren with money for shelter, clothes, childcare, and food, as well as help with her culinary education, and search for a job. TANF will help Lauren and her family out until they can support themselves again.
Lauren developed a plan to start a better life. She would go to school and work part time. After she finishes her education, Lauren plans on applying to high-end resturants so she can pursue her passion of cooking. Her daughter, Taylor, talks about how she can help too.
I can start applying for jobs next summer to help too!
After finishing her education, Lauren got a job at a 5-star restaurant in her city. Lauren and her family now have a steady income and a better place to live. Although Lauren no longer relies on TANF, she is thankful that it helped her family get out of a bad situation.
