Amelia Mary Earhart was born in Atchison KS to Samuel Stanton Earhart and Amelia Otis Earhart on July 24th, 1897. Earhart lived with her Grandparents until she was twelve and then attended a private school. She attended an exclusive finishing school, a medical school, volunteered as nurse, all before achieving her passion and finally buying a plane in 1921.
Amelia Earhart is known around the globe as the first woman to fly solo around the Atlantic. She was the first person who ever flew solo across the Pacific and Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. Some of the awards won for this accomplishment was the Distinguished Flying Cross the Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honor and the Gold Medal of the National Geographic Society.
Amelia is also known for disappearing on the last leg of her flight. Amelia was on her way to her final destination and went off the radar near Howland Island. There are many conspiracy theories on her disappearance and few pieces have been found of her plane and some of her possible items taken on the flight such as Anti-Freckle Cream, fragments of her plane, and a compact bag with a beauty kit.
