  • The great pyramid was 481 feet tall when it was completed.
  • The temple complex at Karnak contains the ruins of the world's largest temples, built with massive blocks of stone.
  • The Egyptians created temples for their gods and tombs for their Pharaohs.
  • Ancient  Egyptians used a tool called a merkhet to observe stars and other objects in the sky. 
  • The Egyptians developed two different calender's. A solar calendar, with 12 months and 365 days, was a model for our modern calendar. An older lunar calendar was based on conservation of the sky.  
  • The people of ancient Egypt had to get these resources through trade, or commerce, with neighboring countries.  
  • Egypt was rich in sunshine and fertile soil, but it lacked the forests, minerals, horses, and other useful natural resources found in Nubia and other countries. 
  • trade created interdependence, or dependence by each country or group on the other 
  • Egypt relied on Nubia's gold, and Nubia relied on Egypt's grain.
  • Trade brought the Nubians into closer contact with ancient Egypt.
