  • Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development Assignment Stages of Life                                                                        By: Marialexia Balmaceda
  • When I was born, my mother had an emergency C-section because I was breach. After a scary delivery, my mother always wanted me close and would let me sleep in her bed. This gave me a feeling of trust and love from my mother.  Trying to put me back in my crib caused chaos every night with crying and screaming. Getting into a pattern of a bedtime story, hugs, kisses and then being placed into my own bed gave me the courage and attention to feel happy at bedtime.  Eventually I got used to sleeping in my own bed realizing and trusting that my mother is still there even though I wasn't in her bed.
  • Infancy (O - 1.5 years) TRUST
  • My sister and I are 16 months apart. We loved to play, dance and sing together but when I was around 2 years old I started to stutter some of my words. No matter how hard I tried, certain words would not come out properly. My mother took me to a speech therapist and she would have me look at  pictures and say the words over and over trying to correct my pronunciation.  After months of practice I stopped  stuttering and  I was very proud of myself.
  • TODDLER (1.5 - 3.5 years) AUTONOMY
  • Preschool (3.5 - 6 years) INITIATIVE
  • School-age (6 - 12 years) INDUSTRY
  • Adolescence (11 - 18 years) IDENTITY
  • All of our family had older children so I basically only played with my sister. When it came time for kindergarten I didn't want to go inside the school. I would start screaming, crying and throwing up everyday. I had separation anxiety and wanted my Mommy. This unfortunately carried on for two years until  it was Christmas break when I realized that I missed my friends.Coming back from Christmas break I took the initiative to play with  kids in my class  and I realized that this was fun. After overcoming my fears, I looked forward going to school.
  • I always loved to dance. I tried hip hop, Greek dancing but my favorite was ballroom dancing. At our recital, my sister and I were too shy to perform our dance in front of people.  We were thinking about how everyone was going to stare at us and if we made a mistake that everyone would laugh at us. To convince myself to perform, I started thinking about how much I practiced and how prepared I was. Getting over my stage fright felt great and everyone loved it.
  • Starting high school and making that big transition made me very nervous. I know I am a great person who is trustworthy, funny with good values and morals.  I didn't know which after school programs to join. I started making a list about the things I like the most. After trying many different extra curricular activities, I know I like dancing and swimming the best.
