Storyboard Text

  • Nat Turner's rebellion was one of the longest slave rebellions to ever happen in the U.S. Many people were haunted from the effects that were quite gruesome. This rebellion was major and greatly effected the way slaves as a whole were viewed and treated.
  • So he gathered an "army".
  • Turner was an average slave, though he was destined for something greater. Turner believed that "God" was trying to communicate to him, and he looked for many signs of this. When the solar eclipse came, Turner decided that it was time to put his plan into action.
  • Kill the whites!!!
  • The plan was to move plantation to plantation. Turner's group would kill all whites tied to slavery including men, women, and even children. They had taken over 11 plantations and had killed 55 people. Because of their success, more enslaved blacks joined in.
  • But they began to get cocky. They decided to take over the town of Jerusalem. Though, before they could, they were stopped by militia men. Said men found and killed anyone that had participated in the rebellion.
  • Run!
  • Oh no!
  • Stop!
  • Turner was caught, tried, convicted, hung, and then skinned. The whites made Turner's demise public to scare other slaves into submission. Many whites were terrified, so stricter laws were put in place.
