Storyboard Text

  • What should we do? The U.S could be shut from trading with China.
  • Well, I believe the we should make a open door policy. This will give all the nations in the world equal trading rights in China.
  • 1899
  • Do you all believe this policy is the best for our nations?
  • We ask no favors; We only ask that we shall be admitted to that great market upon the same terms withe the rest of the world
  • However, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Japan, and France do not agree with this policy.
  • The open door policy is now approved!
  • March 1900
  • On June 1900 in China, the Boxer Rebellion took place in Beijing.
  • The western nations sent 200,000 troops to China and they quickly stopped the Boxer Rebellion.
  • If there is competition between all the nations, then we would all hurt our ability to exploit the China trade.
  • The Boxer Rebellion increased support on Hay's Open Door Policy.
