  • Mandela continue his work for the ANC...He knew he could be sent to prison if the police found out his work
  • I have to move secretly, The policeman didn't have to see me
  • One freedom day in June 1961, Mandela sent a letter to all the newspaper asking the goverment to call a national meeting. He promised that he would continue to fight against apartheid:
  • " I will not leave South Africa. The struggle is my life. I will continue fighting for freedom until the end of my days"
  • The government refused to listen and Mandela now believed that violence was necessary in order to change the government's ideas
  • This new group was separate from the ANC and was called "Umkhonto we Sizwe" wich means (The Spear of the nation) or MK
  • When Mandela began the 700 kilometer drive back to Johannesburg, he saw two more cars filled with white men
  • ouh ooh! ...I'm in trouble , they will arrest me
  • Mandela was sentencws to five years in prision
  • The sentence in the case of all the accused will be one of life imprisonment....The Rivona trial is over
  • Mandela was the first to speak in court...
  • I'm one of the people who organized "Umkhonto we Sizwe", but we created this group because we think that exist a big difference between the lives of black peolpe and the lives of white people in South Africa...
