Storyboard Text

  • Symbolism: The Puppy
  • Character: curley
  • Theme: Relationships
  • The puppy is introduced in chapter 3 as a gift to Lennie from slim. The introduction of something as perfect and gentle as a puppy to a character who often is quite the opposite of it. This made me expect something to happen regarding lennie acting out.
  • Symbol: The light
  • Curley is a man who is jealous of the interactions his wife has with others on the ranch, but is the one who makes his wife resort to attention of others rather than his own.
  • Character: Crooks
  • Slim in chapter 3 begins to build a relationship with lennie and George. The gift of the puppy as well as the fact that slim is a straight up guy makes him an interesting character to follow.
  • Relationship
  • In chapter four, Lennie finds himself going towards the light inside of Crooks shack. Even though Crooks doesn't want Lennie there, Crooks eventually lets him stay and talk. The light inside of the shack represents friendship for Lennie and Crooks, because if the light wasn't on, Lennie would have never been able to talk with Crooks.
  • We learn that Crooks grew up in California, on a chicken farm owned by his family. There were no other black families for him to play with, so he would play with the white kids, much to his fathers displeasure. Crooks would also play with his two brothers with whom he shared a bed.
  • Crooks doesn't like it very much when people go into his room. However, when Lennie does it, Crooks knows that Lennie won't be mean or rude to him because he just wants a friend. For Lennie, it doesn't matter to him if the friend is another race or gender, thats part of Lennies child-like tendencies.
