Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm Marcus Garvey. I'm known for activism, black nationalism, and pan-africanism.
  • After speaking with Booker T  Washington, the American educator who founded the Tuskegee institute, I decided that it would be good if Jamaica got something similar.
  • I fought for the rights of African-Americans. I thought that it was not fair that we didn't get the same privileges.
  • White school only. Black school ->
  • I was born August 17, 1887, and I died June 10, 1940. I was born in Jamaica and in 1910, I left Jamaica to begin traveling throughout Central America. However, in 1912, I went back to Jamaica.
  • I traveled to the U.S in 1916 to raise money for a school in Jamaica.
  • In 1918, I began publishing the widely sold newspaper, Negro World, to convey my message.
