Wan Kim was a 30 year old chinese man immigrating to the United States in 1880 due to talk of the California Gold Rush.
Due to low funds he was forced to leave his family behind to pave way for them in America.
The journey to a better life was a very dirty, dangerous, and uncomfortable one.
The boat was cramped and very unhygienic, due to the overflow of people disease spread very quickly.
Eventually he made it to America, through the immigration process, and was on his way to finding work in California.
He found work in a mine and factory working for very little wages, yet worked hard to support his family overseas.
